MIHS Wrestling Coaches

Head Coach
Colton Knebel
Coach Knebel joined the MIHS Wrestling staff in 2016. As a former Islander wrestler and state qualifier, coach Knebel brings many years of wrestling expertise and experience to the job. He understands the demands of the sport, the commitment required of a student-athlete and as an MIHS grad, has a special connection to the Mercer Island community. A decorated MI Wrestler, Knebel competed on the MIHS Wrestling team from 2007 to 2011, qualified for the Mat Classic state tournament three times and was a two-time state placer. The positive impact that MIHS Wrestling had in Knebel’s life motivated him to return to the sport following graduation from Washington State University in 2016. Coach Knebel enjoys the opportunity to give back to MIHS Wrestling by supporting the program, coaching the athletes and helping MI wrestlers to reach their goals.

Volunteer Assistant Coach
David Woo
Coach Woo joined the MIHS Wrestling staff in 2023. He brings an impressive resume of experience and knowledge to the role. Woo is a former Washington National Team member, a WIAA High School state placer and is highly experienced in all three disciplines of wrestling . He qualified for state all four years of his high school career and was a two-time top finisher. His wrestling accomplishments also include competing for Washington at the USA Wrestling Junior Nationals and training with the state's top coaches and wrestlers.
